The Australian Government announced on 22nd September 2011 a number of measures to enhance the competitiveness of Australia’s international education sector. From 5th Nov 2011, student visa will be assessed against the new Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement.

Hence the top 10 reasons NOW to consider studying in Australia:

1. Upto 3 YEARS Post Study Work Visa

University graduates who have completed a Bachelor degree or Masters by coursework in Australia are proposed to be eligible to apply for a two year post-study work visa.

University graduates who have completed a Masters by research or PhD degree in Australia are proposed to be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa for three or four years respectively

(The post-study work visa is proposed to be available from early 2013)

2. FELXIBLE Part Time Work

Under the proposed arrangement, the student work visa conditions would be measured as 40 hours per fortnight during any fortnight in the course session. A fortnight means a period of 14 days commencing on a Monday. The proposed arrangement would benefit international students who would be better able to respond to busy periods at work without breaching their visa conditions.

3. Visa WITHOUT English Test

Students can study English prior to start of their main course, without giving any English Exam. The university will decide on the duration of the English program

4. LESS funds required for VISA

Students going for bachelors and masters degrees are now need to show funds only for 18 months compared to previous 2 years. No proof of funds required for the tuition fees paid in advance.

5. Acceptance of MULTIPLE English Exams

Test results from the multiple English language tests for Student visa purposes taken in any country are being accepted

Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based test (TOEFL iBT)
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test (also known as Certificate in Advanced English).
IELTS

6. No requirement to study any SPECIFIC Course

It is proposed that applicants eligible to apply under GTE would not be required to nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List or undertake a skills assessment.

7. STREAMLINED Visa Processing

Under the proposed streamlined processing arrangements, universities could be confident that the majority of their students would have their visa applications processed quickly. In addition, student visa applicants applying under the proposed streamlining arrangements would generally have reduced evidentiary requirements.

8. HIGH Quality Education

Australian universities are widely recognised for excellence in many disciplines.
